Having trouble fundraising in tough times?

Are you worried about fundraising? Intimidated by the large amount of money raised by the Presidential candidates? The threat of a recession getting you down? Maybe the impact of the latest hurricanes scaring you?

Listen, you need to let go of those things you can’t control. Don’t spend your time and energy worrying about things that may or may not actually impact your fundraising activities. Instead, concentrate on the basics:

  • Fundraising is all about relationships. What can you do today to cultivate relationships with your donors?
  • Tell the stories of your organization. What compelling stories can you share about the work you are doing?
  • Ask when the time is right. Don’t forget to actually ask your donors for a gift when the time comes.

If you look at the world from a viewpoint of abundance (positive) instead of scarcity (negative), it makes a huge difference in your thinking and your actions. There IS enough money out there to fully fund every nonprofit. Once you believe that and keep it in your mind, it’s a lot easier to raise money and develop donors, no matter what the circumstances.
