Lee Woodruff spoke yesterday afternoon here at the AFP Conference. She told us about her husband’s injuries from a roadside bomb in Iraq. She had some good points and some poignant moments, but one stuck with me.
She talked about the importance of living in the moment. Right now. Not thinking about the 10 things you need to do today or this week, or the things that happened yesterday, but enjoying right now. Because that’s all we really have.
Personally, I’ve been really conscious of this lately. My two teenage daughters are both going off to college this Fall and I’ll have an empty nest. Instead of fretting over that, I’m trying to soak up and enjoy every moment I can with them now. That means, I have to focus on NOW, not tomorrow, not yesterday.
As Fundraisers, we can spend a LOT of time worrying about upcoming grant deadlines or the newsletter we need to write or the major donor calls we need to make. We can worry about the event last week that didn’t go well or the sponsorship proposal that got turned down. So I suggest this: MAKE SURE to spend as much time as you can, each day, in the NOW.
Enjoy your life and your journey, for we come this way but once.
